Q Directions: Here's an opinion piece written by one of the professors interviewed in the Trophy Nation video, Ashley Merryman. This article is what you'll be summarizing in Paper #2, but of course having watched Trophy Nation last week should provide you with a helpful context for understanding Merryman's argument. You're going to start by actively reading Merryman's article, which means: Highlighting/underlining and possibly numbering main ideas and key words (collectively referred to as annotating the text) Creating marginal notes by using the New Comment feature in Word Marginal notes should include 3 types: 1) Important content from the article; 2) Your reactions to that content; and 3) Connections between the article's content and your prior experience and/or current knowledge Hyperlinks: Merryman links to a few different research studies that back up her claims. If you have room in your summary, you may want to include the topline conclusions from 1-2 of those studies. (Note: For the active reading assignment, no annotations are required on the linked-to articles.) Follow-up Questions: At the bottom of the Word doc with Merryman's article are a few questions for you to answer. These questions should help you begin to plan your summary paragraph.
